DESCRIPTION

Wiki How To Code php ScriptsHow To "write php script" Wiki
PHP is a programming language used to make web pages interactive. Think of what happens when you edit a page on this website, for example. When you submit your changes, they're sent to one of the wikiHow servers, where they're processed by PHP scripts, and a new version of the page is sent back to your browser. Behind this process are millions, perhaps billions of PHP scripts, controlling how web pages change based on a variety of circumstances.

This Wiki will teach you how to write a few very simple PHP scripts so that you can get a basic understanding of how PHP works.

WAMP
WAMPs are packages of independently-created programs installed on computers that use a Microsoft Windows operating system. The interaction of these programs enables dynamic web pages to be served over a computer network, such as the internet or a private network.

"WAMP" is an acronym formed from the initials of the operating system (Windows) and the package's principal components: Apache, MySQL and PHP (or Perl or Python). Apache is a web server, which allows people with web browsers like Internet Explorer or Firefox to connect to a computer and see information there as web pages. MySQL is a database manager (that is, it keeps track of data in a highly organized way). PHP is a scripting language which can manipulate information held in a database and generate web pages afresh each time an element of content is requested from a browser. Other programs may also be included in a package, such as phpMyAdmin which provides a graphical interface for the MySQL database manager, or the alternative scripting languages Python or Perl.

Speech Recognition

Pocket Shinx for Handhelds: http://www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/pocketsphinx/

PocketSphinx is a lightweight speech recognition engine, specifically tuned for handheld and mobile devices, though it works equally well on the desktop. It is released under the same permissive license as Sphinx itself.

PocketSphinx downloads have been moved to the CMU Sphinx SourceForge Site. The latest version is 0.5. To build it, you also need SphinxBase 0.4.

For more information, see The CMU Sphinx Documentation Wiki.

VoxForge was set up to collect transcribed speech for use with Free and  Open Source Speech Recognition Engines (on Linux, Windows and Mac).

All audio files are available under the GPL license so you can then 'compile' them into acoustic models for use with Open Source speech recognition engines such as Sphinx, ISIP, Julius and HTK (note: HTK has distribution restrictions).

Why Do We Need Free GPL Speech Audio?

Most acoustic models used by 'Open Source' speech recognition (or Speech-to-Text) engines are 'Closed Source'.  They do not give you access to the speech audio and transcriptions (i.e. the speech corpus) used to create the acoustic model.

The reason for this is that Free and Open Source ('FOSS') projects are required to purchase large speech corpora with restrictive licensing.  Although there are a few instances of small FOSS speech corpora that could be used to create acoustic models, the vast majority of corpora (especially large corpora best suited to building good acoustic models) must be purchased under restrictive licenses.
